Garrett is 2-1/2!

Image
The day we had Gus, Garrett immediately looked a year older, a foot taller, and years more mature. Now that he is just 6 months away from the big 0-3, I'm amazed at how quickly the last 2-1/2 years have gone by.   A few of Garrett's passions these days: Excavators, dump tracks, loaders (he pronounces it "yoader"), and backhoes. Since starting Kindermusik he loves listening to the CD they gave us.  He now likes to watch Curious George and Flying Wild Alaska (loves those Tweto girls and airplanes).  We could read books for hours on end (current faves are Good Night Moon, Down by the Station, Goodnight Cowboy, and Little Bunny Foo Foo). He can't wait for baseball season to start, and frequently asks to go to see the "Wangers".  He enjoys getting his haircut and asks about "Penny" when we drive by the barber shop (Penny is who cuts his hair).  When driving in the car, he keeps busy by pointing out "dwilling wigs", churches, cranes...

Riverwalk

Zane finished up with his stuff around noon today, so we decided to have lunch on the Riverwalk. We figured Garrett would enjoy it. Other than a few spins in the neighborhood, this was the Bob's Maiden Voyage. Zane had some zipties and caribiners, so after he engineered me an impromptu holder for the diaper bag in the parking lot, all was good. Gus was in the Mobywrap for a little while (until we were sure we wouldn't have to take any stairs) The stick that Garrett is carrying is the excess from the ziptie Zane used (they were the longest zipties I've ever seen). Garret insisted on carrying it because it was his "shishing pole". Gus loved the Mobywrap. I have a love-hate relationship with it. We had lunch and Gus slept comfortably in the stroller. Here he is showing off his muscles. Garrett insisted on no highchair or booster seat....he is getting so big (until the pigeon landed beside us to eat some fallen food, then flew away, almost hitting Garrett in the head...

Me and my cowboys....

Last night All Cat had their annual team roping competition. This is Zane's only chance each year to rope, and we were excited for Garrett to experience it now that he is a little older so there was no way we could miss it.  A few years ago Zane and his partner won the roping, but no luck this year.  As soon as we got there, Zane had to hurry and go off on the horse because we were running late. I was visiting with friends and lost track of Garrett for a second. I found him at the fence, watching Zane ride off, quietly sobbing huge tears. I thought he was hurt, but as it turned out, he was heartbroken that Zane left him. It was so sad I almost starting crying. If he had been screaming and crying and throwing a fit, I wouldn't had felt so badly, but the fact that he was so quiet about it and just watching Zane on a horse without him, just broke my heart. So, the only remedy for that is to put him on a horse.  It was Zane's turn to rope, so Garrett had to get down. He was...
