Day 3 ~ At Sea

Image
We are off to fish for the day. With the water as calm as they are, we had to take advantage of it. First stop is at the market for snacks, beer, etc. Waiting on our guide... Martin arrived soon after. The guys discussed the plans, what we were fishing for, etc. The important stuff like lunch was also discussed. We would cook whatever we caught. Martin would cook it for us, as well as some other food he had brought. Lunch would be at Ranguana, a private caye (island). The weather looks perfect and there is tons to see as we head about 20 miles off of Palcencia. This is a Caye where fisherman live. You can see their huts and tents. They fish for a week at a time and then sell what they have caught at the local villages. So far - no fish. These are the only fish that are providing nourishment! Still no fish, but we are having fun! Martin, our guide It is lunchtime, and we have no fish. Luckily we find this conch diver in the middle of no where. The nearest island was 3 miles. Martin b...

Day 2 in Belize

Enjoying the Beach The Pier at the resort One of the 3 pools, but I don't think we have used them yet. After hanging out at the resort, we headed into Palcencia. We needed a few snacks, bug spray and some goodies for Garrett. We wanted to check out the village. Palcencia is a true seaside village, yet very modern, self-sufficient, clean and safe. We had lunch at Da Thatch. Zane had Conch Fritters. I had shrimp. While having lunch we saw a huge raccoon climb a coconut palm tree right on the beach. He was at least 30 pounds ~ and very cute. Then we did some shopping. Here is Palcencia's village preschool Zane and I agreed to buy each other something little in Belize for an anniversary gift. 5 years is supposed to be a wooden gift. Zane bought me a bracelet made from coconut wood. I bought him a wooden figureen of a fisherman and his wife, made by a little lady here is Palcencia. She sold them on the beach. It was HOT when we got back, so we headed to the beach. We have had cev...

Getting to Belize...

Garrett before his last day of Mother's Day Out at Tate Tots. Aunt Nettie dropped Garrett off at MDO with us. She would be picking him up later that morning. Garrett wanted her to carry him into the church. We made it! Zane and I headed to the airport. On the plane to Belize City We landed in Belize City - the airport where huge jets all landed AND taxied on the same airstrip. Every passenger deplaned onto the tarmac. I thought that made me nervous. Until..... Until I saw our connecting flight...Zane and I made up 25% of the passengers. This flight would be taking us to Placencia which was  about 30 minutes away. However, we first had to make a stop in Savannah to drop off 3 passengers. So we got to take off and land TWICE in this baby. I thought this was cool sign. As soon as I took it, I realized that doing that was a bad idea, being in a foreign country and all. Then I heard someone yelling, hesitantly I turned around, and of couse, it was directe...
