The State Fair of Texas

Image
Friday afternoon we went to the State Fair. Garrett had to meet Big Tex, and Zane & I had to try some unique fair cuisine (if you can call it that). This year, some of the features were: Fried Honeybuns, Fried Green Beans, Fried Oreos, and the Elvis (deep fried peanut butter, jelly, and banana sanwiches) which we tried. The first few bits were good, but it got soggy pretty quickly. We enjoyed the normal stuff: corndogs, cold beer, pizza, cold beer, and cheeseburgers, and cold beer.

Before & After

Each time Zane & I have gone to the fair, we've taken a picture in one of the many photo booths throughout the Midway. This was October 2003... This was last night, October 2008... Things sure have changed... And we wouldn't have it any other way.

There's a mouse

Image
I saw a fuzzy critter in my laundry room today as I was about to put a load of clothes in the dryer. There is a field across the street from us with an old barn, cows, and goats, so we have occasionally seen mice around the yard, but NEVER in the house. Until Zane could come home to find it, I brought in the big guns to stand guard. Heidi looks a bit confused, though. It might have been my blood curdling scream. I left Heidi in this exact place, and Garrett & I left for Target. No way was I hanging out with a mouse.

A little crowded...

I think Garrett & Sophie will be best friends in no time. Heidi was busy on mouse watch (see next post).

7 Weeks Old

Aunt Mimi bought him several Dr. Seuss onesies before he was born, and gave them to him along with several Dr. Seuss books. The onesies finally fit, and the stories keep him entertained for at least a few minutes. We read one every time we wear one of the onesies . Thanks again, Aunt M!

Garrett's Baptism

Image
Sunday was a very special day for Garrett ~ he was baptized, and several of our family members and friends were there to share in the special day (3 pews full to be exact, along with our church family). He did well and only fussed for a second when Pastor John put the water on his head. To add to the significance of the day, he wore his Daddy's baptismal outfit that Julsie gave us. It was a satin onesie with a vest and hat that is 30 years old. It fit him perfectly - we would have been in trouble had we waited one more week. The blanket was made for him by Granny, Zane's 92 year old grandmother. His bib with the embroidered cross was from Tia Erin, Tio Jason & Cousin Atlee. Garrett's Aunt Nettie and Big John were gracious enough to be his Godparents. I think he's in very good hands with their love and guidance. It truly was a special day ~ Thanks to all who shared in it with us. Tia Erin ~ thank you for the pics! You are the best. Pastor John & Garrett making ...
